“Expertise across all creatures great & small.”

Established in the early 1960's RVC has serviced the local community for over 60 years. Our Rangiora clinic relocated to its new site in 2014 and is one of only four BESTPRACTICE Hospitals in NZ. We have two branch clinics where we provide companion animal medicine and surgery services at Kaiapoi and run our dermatology service out of the Woodend clinic. which also includes a boarding cattery. Our Rangiora clinic is a purpose built facility for both companion animal and small ruminant and pig medicine and surgery.  We provide 24-hour nursing for intensive & critical care patients with on-site emergency after hours vets. In 2017, we added a dedicated equine hospital & clinic on the same site.

Seasonal dairy farming (average herd size 650 cows) is now a big part of our business. We also work closely with sheep, beef and deer farmers as well as a large alpaca clientele and lifestyle block farmers. Racing stables & studs keep the equine team busy; small animal practice continues to expand, including referrals from throughout the South Island. Then there’s the wildlife…

Our relationship with Orana Wildlife Park began over 30 years ago, & has continued ever since. NZ’s only open-range zoo is home to 400+ wild animals, including primates, large cats, reptiles & birds.

We’re proud of our depth & breadth of expertise with many in our team of 23 vets holding or  completing post-graduate qualifications in surgery (Rebecca Weight. Lynne Wilkins, Liz Millar), dermatology (Lee Williams), dentistry (Marcella Cassiani-Lowe), feline medicine (Charlie Crummet), clinical governance (Sophie Nielson), wildlife (Ben Davidson) and Dairy cattle medicine (Richard Norjte). Directors Andy Bailey & Sam Taylor head our equine stud & racing teams respectively.

Rangiora is the heart of Waimakariri, one of NZ’s fastest-growing districts for nearly 30 years. Less than 30km from Christchurch International Airport, it remains proudly rural, with good services & easy access to many outdoor recreation areas across North Canterbury.
